Please plan to attend the 2018 CPTA Annual Legislative Day on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 and make your voice heard in honor of the physical therapy profession. Don't miss out on a great networking event!
Course Description
Participants will learn about bills in the legislature that have a direct impact on your profession. You will receive outstanding advice on advocacy from our seasoned lobbyist and public relations firm. You will meet with legislators and their staff members who represent your home cities. And most of all, you will experience first-hand what a strong grassroots advocacy program can do.
Course Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify how a bill becomes law.
- Design a comprehensive legislative strategy for the advancement of the physical therapy profession.
- Schedule meetings with legislators and their staff members who represent your home cities.
Speakers
Dr. Christopher M. Powers, PT, PhD, FAPTA, CPTA President is an Associate Professor in the Division of Biokinesiology and Physical Therapy and Co-Director of the Musculoskeletal Biomechanics Laboratory at the University of Southern California. Dr. Powers is an active researcher, and has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles. He frequently lectures both nationally and internationally on topics related to lower limb biomechanics and the pathomechanics of orthopaedic disorders.
Chris Reed, PT, MPT, ATC, OCS currently serves as CPTA's Government Affairs Chairperson and a CAL-PT-PAC Trustee. Chris is an advocate for the profession and a private practitioner in the South Bay Area. He frequently lectures at the state and local level for CPTA on topics related to advocacy, professionalism and legislative strategies.
Carl London is CPTA's lead lobbyist. Mr. London has advocated on behalf of the CPTA for over nine years and has extensive experience in grassroots advocacy, public policy and political action committee development.
